
The Theatre at Marietta College is proud to announce its 2008-09 season. The season includes the 62nd Mainstage Series, the Fourth Studio Series, and two festivals. Also new this year is Dinner and a Show.
62nd Mainstage Series
The Revenger’s Tragedy
by Thomas Middleton, directed by Stephen M. Rader
A lurid and surprisingly funny adventure in a world fixated on sexual and political intrigue and on revenge for wrongs real and imagined.

La Ronde
by Arthur Schnitzler, directed by Jeffrey M. Cordell
A cycle of 10 dialogues between men and women about sex, deception, love, and status. The play scandalized the Viennese society it portrays at the turn of the 20th century.

Jane Eyre: The Musical

Charlotte Bronte’s beloved tale of a girl who loves a man she believes is beyond her reach, set to a glorious and moving score that will have you humming along.

The Children’s Hour
by Lillian Hellman
directed by Jeffrey M. Cordell
When a problematic student at a girl’s boarding school tells a lie about her teachers, the community is shocked, lives are ruined, and new truths come to light. This production celebrates the 75th anniversary of the Broadway premier of this American classic.

In its 62nd season, the Mainstage series features a year of classics. All Mainstage series productions are performed in the Friederich Theatre, located in the Hermann Fine Arts Center at the corner of Fourth and Butler Streets on the Marietta College campus. This season the Friederich will be in proscenium and offers seating for 170. The Friederich Theatre is handicapped accessible. Tickets for mainstage plays are $8 for adults, $7 for seniors, and $6 for students. Tickets for the mainstage musical are $10 for adults, $9 for seniors, and $8 for students. Marietta College students and employees are free. Tickets may be purchased beginning one hour before the performance or reserved by calling (740) 376-4678.
Fourth Studio Series
“On Tidy Endings” by Harvey Fierstein, directed by Shannon Whalen & “Monica” by Pauline Macauly, directed by Britney Koser
In Fierstein’s play, a man and his lover’s ex-wife’s meeting to sign papers is both moving and mordantly funny. And, in “Monica,” when a young man unexpectedly encounters his mistress’s husband, the outcome is not at all what he expected.

“Ned and Sharon” by Sam Holcroft, directed by Stephanie Tett & “Boy on Blacktop Road” by Dale Wasserman, directed by Andrew Wind
“Ned and Sharon” is the exploration of how a disturbed girl in a detention center struggles to build a meaningful relationship with a young man. Wasserman’s play explores the impact of a boy who mysteriously appears and disappears on the lives of five lonely people.

“’Twas Brillig” by Frank Gilroy, directed by Shara Postle & “The Way of All Fish” by Elaine May, directed by Rebecca McCullough
Gilroy asks “How does a writer respond when his new boss makes a loyalty oath a condition of employment?” Elaine May hilariously writes of a high-powered executive and her manic secretary discovering themselves ordering sushi and getting to know one another far better than the boss intended.

Central Park West by Woody Allen, directed by Mandy Bics
Allen’s characters display their usual wide range of neuroses that are hysterical both clinically and comically.

Rembrandt’s Gift by Tina Howe, directed by Sara Raddell
An OCD actor and his photographer wife of nearly 50 years meet Rembrandt—who drops into the 21st century for a visit.

All studio series productions are performed in Studio 101, located in the Hermann Fine Arts Center at the corner of Fourth and Butler streets on the Marietta College campus. This proscenium stage with 65 seats offers and intimate space for young directors and actors to practice their craft. Tickets for studio series performances are $6 for adults, $5 for seniors, and $4 for students. Marietta College students and employees are free. Festivals
Third Annual 24-Hour Play Festival
A program of original short plays written, cast, rehearsed, and performed in 24-hours.
Jan. 17 at 8 p.m.
One-Act Festival
Three evening of one-acts presented in repertory by students as their final projects in Directing 2.
April 22 and 24-26 at 8 p.m.
April 23 at 8:30 p.m.
April 26 at 2 p.m.
All festivals are free and open to the public. There is no reserved seating for these performances. Seating will be available approximately 30 minutes before performance times. All festival performances will take place in the Hermann Fine Arts Center at the corner of Fourth and Butler streets on the Marietta College campus.
Dinner and a Show
This year Brighter Day Restaurant has partnered with the Theatre at Marietta College for Dinner and a Show. Purchase your theatre tickets at Brighter Day Restaurant on the night of the performance and you receive a 15 percent discount on all food and $1 off every theatre ticket. Brighter Day Restaurant is located at 211 Second St. in Marietta. Brighter Day accepts reservations for groups of five or more at (740) 376-2429. Dinner and a Show is not available on Sundays.
